Windows media center blank screen

If available, try performing an in-place upgrade to the latest available version. A Windows 10 to 11 upgrade will reinstall the OS without removing your apps and files.

Corrupt system files can cause one or more features to stop working in Windows If the error is found and fixed, reboot the computer and check if the Windows Security blank screen issue is resolved. By design, Windows Security will be disabled in the presence of a third-party antivirus.

Though, it will not affect the Window Defender functionalities. Some antivirus software like Malwarebytes allows you to turn off the protection and exit the app. If not, you may have to uninstall your antivirus to see if that helps. Most antivirus companies offer a removal tool to completely remove the software from the user's computer. Head over to your antivirus company's official website and download the tool.

Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions to delete your antivirus software. As a last resort, perform a reset to reinstall Windows 10 without affecting your personal files and folders.

However, this will remove all the third-party apps installed on your computer, so make sure to create a backup before resetting your PC. The reset process may take a few minutes to a few hours to complete. Everything got honked when I restored my PC a couple of days ago. Any advise?!? The post before yours from Arun was about a system running Windows 7 and the problem turned out to be audio related. Regardless of the OS, when you run the checkup utility you should see 3 green check marks on the default decoder.

If they're not all checked, highlight the entry and click on the "Check for Update" button. If that still doesn't work, let me know the decoder vendor, decoder filename and decoder version of the preferred choice. All this info should be displayed in the checkup utility window. I might be able to find a better choice for you.

What does codex mean?!? Sounds like the decoder you're using is ok with MCE but not with your particular video capture card. I've seen some comments from Microsoft that after a restore you may need to reload your manufacturer's decoder, even if it shows up and appears to be working properly. It is the same one that was working before and is installed according to DECCheck. It is also the default. It has to be installed separately. If you don't have a backup copy of it, contact the maker of your MCE PC and ask if they can provide you with it.

Once we know what it is we can figure out the best decoder to use. Codec is shorthand or a "portmanteau" for coder-decoder. There are both audio codecs and video codecs. You can find out what video codecs you have via the device manager also. Right click on Video Codecs and select properties, then click on the properties tab to see what you're using.

You also have the option of updating them, and that may help. Sorry, don't understand most of what you said. I think I need to reinstall MCE. Is there a place to get it? I was on live chat with HP for 2 hours today. First they said Restore PC again. I resisted that since I have spent a couple of days getting everything back again. It actually opened MC and looked like it was working but when I restarted black screen again.

Tried Rollup 2 and got an incomplete installation with error 0x I appreciate your time! I tried changing the default but was informed that I need to be an administrator or part of an administrator group. My user account is an administrator. Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Screen blank? Just hit Blue! The other problem with Media center is now when I shuffle backwards alot of the time the screen goes blank and comes back after sometime.

It's an all in one PC - where everything was working fine unitll an Update stuffed Media center I don't think I should have to roll back the Nvidia screen driver --for that worked fine for ages. I have found that it usually does it when I am watching TV and it starts at about 11pm. It's sidefeect is that if it is doing it than putting the PC into standby won't work and Windows will "nouveu Blue screen" and reset.

NOTE these are all problems that developed over time You usually only notice problems way after the changes. Knowing how far to go back is painful and time consuming so I only bother with restores if thier is something cataclysmicly wrong. I would like to find the actual "solution". It's sad no real solution can be provided A "problem logger" A Human intervened problem logger should be implemented for OSes It could be like a questionaire blog, where when you have detected a problem a user starts up a session answering questions through a hierarchy stating the properties of the problem.

For example I have noticed many people have problems with specific hardware driver combinations So far the only way to remedy these problems is to ask, and search for advice over the net in the hope that enough people also percieve the same difficulties with the glitch It would be much saner to provide a service by the OS vendor that accumulates the problems of all it's users in a neat hierarchal fashion for further dissemination and testing by both OS and peripherrial vendors.

My problem will not be logged and taken up as a problem becuase it's not a part of any error logs that Msoft can disseminate
