It doesn't matter where I save the scanned image on the PC, this file still appears in the same place. Oddly, I installed this same scanner on exactly the same model PC several months ago, and did not have this problem.
The PC failed and was exchanged for this brand new one. My Google searches have yielded no solution, other than it has something to do with the Still Image Monitor, but I can't find much about that either. Called Canon Tech Support. They said they never heard of this, so it must be my PC, therefore they couldn't help me.
Since I did not have this situation on the previous install on same model PC, I'm hopeful there is some way to use my scanner without this annoying file appearing each time.

I've seen that check box a million times, but it just never occurred to me. Runtime Error! Step 1: Restore your PC back to the latest restore point, "snapshot", or backup image before error occurred. In the search results, find and click System Restore.
Follow the steps in the System Restore Wizard to choose a relevant restore point. Restore your computer to that backup image. You'll be prompted with a permission dialog box. In the box, click " YES ". You should have a black screen with a blinking cursor. Follow any on-screen commands to complete the process. Please be aware that this scan might take a while, so please be patient while it is working.
If this Step 2 fails as well, please proceed to the Step 3 below. In the Windows Update dialog box, click " Check for Updates " or similar button depending on your Windows version If updates are available for download, click " Install Updates ".
After the update is completed, restart your PC. Tracelog controls kernel-mode and private user-mode trace sessions, and special sessions such as the NT Kernel Logger trace session and the Global Logger trace session.
Many of the features of Tracelog are also available in TraceView , a tool included in the Windows Driver Kit WDK that has a graphical user interface in addition to a command-line interface.
